Sedentarisation of Nomadic People: The Case of the Hawawir in Um Jawasir, Northern Sudan

This study explores problems of settlement with regard to nomadic pastoralist communities.

The present study is based on data collected during a fieldwork of 17 days.  The research team collected qualitative data, through discussions with the project staff, representatives from various governmental institutions, as well as with different groups of the Hawawir on topics relevant for the study theme. In this report the collected data will be discussed comparatively with literature on similar cases. Ending the report, comments and recommendations will be made that could also benefit other similar projects in other pastoralist, nomadic societies in Africa.
